Tips for handling computer and mobiles smartly...#4

16. Access menu without Sim card:
To access to the menu in your phone without having a card inside do the following: type
**04*0000*0000*0000# When display say "Wrong Pin" press NO and u have access to
the all menus: Info, Access, Settings, Calculator, Clock, Keylock On?, Mail, Phone book.
NOTE if u try this on your phone may stop at Keylock On? menu and u ll have to take
your battery out to turn the phone on again. And this will not care about Phone lock!

17. Delete An "undeletable":
Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open.
Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and enter TASKMGR.EXE
Go to the Processes tab and End Process on Explorer.exe.
Leave Task Manager open.
Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory the AVI (or other undeletable file) is located in.
At the command prompt type DEL where is the file you wish to delete.
Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell.
Close Task Manager.

Or you can try this

Open Notepad.exe

Click File>Save As..>

locate the folder where ur undeletable file is

Choose 'All files' from the file type box

click once on the file u wanna delete so its name appears in the 'filename' box

put a " at the start and end of the filename
(the filename should have the extension of the undeletable file so it will overwrite it)

click save,

It should ask u to overwrite the existing file, choose yes and u can delete it as normal

Here's a manual way of doing it. I'll take this off once you put into your first post zain.

1. Start
2. Run
3. Type: command
4. To move into a directory type: cd c:\*** (The stars stand for your folder)
5. If you cannot access the folder because it has spaces for example Program Files or Kazaa Lite folder you have to do the following. instead of typing in the full folder name only take the first 6 letters then put a ~ and then 1 without spaces. Example: cd c:\progra~1\kazaal~1
6. Once your in the folder the non-deletable file it in type in dir - a list will come up with everything inside.
7. Now to delete the file type in del ***.bmp, txt, jpg, avi, etc... And if the file name has spaces you would use the special 1st 6 letters followed by a ~ and a 1 rule. Example: if your file name was bad file.bmp you would type once in the specific folder thorugh command, del badfil~1.bmp and your file should be gone. Make sure to type in the correct extension.

18. Disabling right click on Start Button:

Right clicking on the Start Button pops up a number of menu items like Open, Explore, Search and a few others, on the screen. It is possible to stop these menu items from coming up simply by following the steps below:-

1) Start > Run > "regedit" (without the quotes of course)

2) Search for the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell
Rename the above key from "shell" to "shell.old"

3) Now search for the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\Shell
Rename the above key from "shell" to "shell.old"

4) Exit the Windows registry and restart the Windows session for the change to be applied.

19. Disable USB Drives:

Update 1/18/2007 09:23 PM EST - Some changes in windows have made this article out of date. Check out our new article on the subject to learn how to disable USB flash drives

Once in a while I have a friend, or customer that needs to keep people from using the USB ports to copy data off of a system.

It is easy to lock a machine down, disable the floppy, and cdrom in the bios. Many times when you try to disable USB - it disables it entirely.

This can be a real pain on newer laptops or systems that don't even have a PS2 interface for the mouse or keyboard.

There is a simple registry change that will keep the USB storage drivers from starting when the system boots. Keeps people from walking up to a PC and copying data off with a USB key, but allows you to keep your scanner, keyboard, and mouse working.

As always - back your system up before messing around in the registry.
Just open regedit and browse to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
Notice the value 'Start'

Switch this value to 4, and USB storage devices are disabled.
Switch this value to 3, and USB storage devices are enabled.
For those of you that don't feel like messing around in the registry -
We wrote a program to do it for you
